Several international blogs, gossip and entertainment websites also highlighted the video. The incident was also reported during CNN's Paula Zahn Now on Monday night, as well as entertainment television station E! in the US.
Last week communications firm Verizon dropped their sponsorship of his tour with Gwen Stefani following the furore. While Verizon did not cite the tape or any conduct as a reason for dropping their sponsorship, the company has since removed Akon's ringtones, as well as music and artwork from his platinum-selling album Konvicted, from Verizon Wireless stores and handsets.
