Pop star Britney Spears was charged yesterday with hit and run and driving without a valid license, revealed a spokesman attached to the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office said.
Spears will answer to one count of hit and run causing property damage and one count of driving without a valid California driver's license, both misdemeanors.
The charges, which each carry a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, stem from an incident in a private parking lot in the San Fernando Valley on August 6.
Spears was sent a letter on Friday, notifying her of the charges and a hearing in the matter on October 10, a spokesman for the city attorney's office said.
She is not required to attend the hearing because the charges are misdemeanors, the spokesman said.
