After four jam-packed shows in the UK that also featured Serani, Bugle, Chase Cross and Alliance selector Boom Boom, leading dancehall singjay Mavado kicked off his first-ever European Tour last week Monday (May 11). Visiting six countries for nine shows in ten days across the continent, Mavado has reportedly been met with nothing but love, underlining the international appeal of his music and message.
“The response everywhere we’ve been has been mad,” said Mavado. “Paris was the first show and it was crazy, the venue was packed and the crowd sang every word. It set the tone for the rest of the tour which has just been more of the same.“
Traveling by day and performing night after night, Mavado has so far blazed through France, Belgium, North and South Italy and Switzerland, and will finish up with shows in Germany and Holland.
Notably, Mavado made an appearance in Zurich, Switzerland, the city where his Father was murdered over three years ago. There, he got the chance to meet with some of his father’s friends who knew him as “King”. To cap off a memorable visit to that city, Jamaican music legend Lee Scratch Perry - who resides in Zurich - was also in attendance at the show.
Mavado will close out his European tour in a few days at the famous Club Paradiso in Amsterdam, and he’ll then head west to Miami, Florida for Mavado will head to Miami for the much-anticipated Best of the Best 2009 show. From there Mavado will round out this leg of his busy schedule in Los Angeles, California at the UCLA Jazz Fest. Below we’ve featured a couple pictures from the tour.
