The 2010 “Best of the Best” Concert
which rocked music fans in Miami, USA had in attendance various
Jamaican music heavyweights like COCO TEA, MR VEGAS, LADY SAW,
CAPLETON, DEMARCO and the “Golden Voice” GYPTIAN doing the “Hold Yuh”
with sexy NIKKI MINAJ.
GYPTIAN indisputably is the most popular
Jamaican artiste in Ghana followed by Busy Signal, Demarco and Serani.
SKANKING VYBZ in a tête-à-tête interview with GYPTIAN hours before he
mounted stage says, “ I feel honoured being the most popular artiste in
Ghana now. To know my music is making hits in a good country such as
Ghana is worth rewarding”. According to him, he never knew the hit
track would gain so much prominence after it was recorded 2 years ago.
Tracing it all down history, many
Ghanaian Deejays never thought the somewhat “leisure” track titled
“Hold Yuh” by Jamaican singjay, GYPTIAN would the highly sought for
voice and riddim until it has proved otherwise.
Apart from X-Man
of X fm 95.1 in Accra – Ghana who since March 2010 has made overtime
airplay on the track, barely would one hear Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh” play
on any deejay’s programme. Even radio fans who listened to the track
paid less attention to it.
Not until Gyptian’s feature of NICKI
MINAJ on “Hold Yuh” which took the whole world by storm. As at now,
remix version of the track currently steps beyond 40 globally with
features like LADY SAW, STEIN, RICKY BLAZE, ZIONOMI, ROCK CITY, ALANIE,
CHINO, SHANI, MIA STOSH, SASHI LAMONT among among.
In Ghana
however, the track has won the hearts of many that even non-reggae
deejays feature Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh Riddim” at least 3 times in their
playlist. About 7 remix versions of the “Hold Yuh Riddim” stemming from
Ghana has voices like Sugar Ranking, Stonebwoy Burniton, Nii, Iwan,
Trigmatic and others.
On doing working with Ghanaian Reggae
& Dancehall artistes, GYPTIAN says he is “open to any artiste who
would want to feature him on the riddim or work with him on any other
track.” He congratulates all Ghanaian deejays for palying his tracks
and as well his growing fan base in Ghana which unarguably has about
65% being females.
Meanwhile, information available to SKANKING
VYBZ reveals that, a Ghanaian promoter (name with-held) is in talks
with GYPTIAN. Are you ready to go watch Gyptian perform on stage here
in Ghana any time soon? “ Jus keep yuh eyes pon’ di road, SKANKING VYBZ
gwaan surely hit yuh wid di vibes as soon as dem burst yeh”.
